A 3D DAW redefining music creation with space-aware interfaces and experimental workflow.
Severe is an experimental 3D Digital Audio Workstation aiming to shift how musicians interface with sound. Instead of traditional flat and linear timelines, Severe places audio in space—allowing you to shape, move, and feel your music with a sense of depth and immersion. A modal sound editor, Severe's ARRANGER, SEQUENCER, MIXER, SAMPLER,and RUNNER modes provide 5 unique paradigms for creating music intuitatively. We listen to music in 3D, so naturally we should make it in 3D too. While still in very early development, it explores new possibilities for visualizing and sculpting audio in a physical way. Expect bugs, strangeness, and new ideas in constant motion. With new software version rollouts announced to friends and beta-testers, we hope to improve this new tool until it's ready to be enjoyed by the world.
Severe is built using raylib for rendering and UI, and a custom 3D audio library named Shoko, which abstracts the miniaudio library among others into a 3D-aware sound engine. The codebase is in primarily C++ and designed with modularity in mind, allowing for low-latency manipulation of audio nodes in space.
